Yogyakarta, 1 October 2026 – The Master’s Program in Environmental Science at the Graduate School of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) held a guest lecture for the Natural Resources and Environmental Management (PSDAL) course on Thursday (1/10). The lecture was conducted online via Zoom and featured Prof. Josaphat Tetuko Sri Sumantyo, Ph.D. from Chiba University, Japan, who delivered a presentation on remote sensing using synthetic aperture radar (SAR). Yogyakarta, 28 September 2026 – The Master’s Program in Environmental Sciences (MIL), Universitas Gadjah Mada, held a guest lecture as part of the Environmental Research Methods course on Monday, 28 September 2026. The lecture featured Prof. Josaphat Tetuko Sri Sumantyo, Ph.D. from Chiba University, Japan, with the theme “How to Be a World Class Scientist.”

In his presentation, Prof. Josaphat encouraged students to reconsider the meaning of conducting research. He explained that re-search means searching, exploring, and looking at something again in greater depth. Researchers do not necessarily have to discover something that has never been studied before. Familiar phenomena, such as volcanic eruptions and volcanic ash dispersion, remain worthy of research when examined through different questions, perspectives, methods, or scales. read more

Friday, September 18, 2026 — The Environmental Science Team of the Graduate School of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) presented the Final Report of the Greenhouse Gas Inventory (GHGI) Document for West Kutai Regency 2026 during an online presentation held in collaboration with the Government of West Kutai Regency. The activity was part of efforts to provide a data and information base on greenhouse gas emissions and removals to support regional development planning.

The preparation of the GHGI document involved a process of data inventory, processing, and analysis to provide an overview of greenhouse gas emissions and removals in West Kutai Regency. The study also provides information on emission trends, carbon sources and removals, as well as aspects that require attention in efforts to improve environmental management and emission control at the regional level. read more

Sukabumi, September 5, 2026 – To complete the series of activities of the 2026 PEPSILI National Working Meeting, the Master’s and Doctoral Programs in Environmental Science at the Graduate School of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM Graduate School) participated in a fieldtrip as part of a Community Engagement program at Situ Gunung, Sukabumi, West Java, on Saturday (September 5, 2026).

Carrying the spirit of “Saving the Earth through Impactful Real Action,” the activity served as a platform for field-based learning through an Environmental Rapid Assessment and trekking activities. read more

Bogor, September 3, 2026 – As part of the 2026 National Working Meeting of the Indonesian Association of Environmental Science Study Programs (PEPSILI), the Master’s and Doctoral Programs in Environmental Science at the Graduate School of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM Graduate School) actively participated in a competency training program entitled “Governance in Natural Resource and Environmental Management.”

The training was organized through a collaboration between PEPSILI and IPB University. The UGM delegation consisted of heads of study programs, quality assurance coordinators, lecturers, and educational staff. Their participation formed part of an effort to strengthen the knowledge and capacity of the academic community in understanding natural resource and environmental governance while keeping pace with developments in environmental management and higher education quality assurance. read more

Yogyakarta, August 15, 2026 – The Master’s Program in Environmental Science, Graduate School of Universitas Gadjah Mada (SPs UGM), held a field lecture deficiency program for incoming students. This activity invited students to explore four observation sites spanning from the slopes of Mount Merapi to the southern coast of Yogyakarta, namely Watu Gede (Argomulyo, Cangkringan, Sleman), Mount Sempu (Bantul), the Sewon Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP), and the Depok Beach area in Parangtritis, Bantul. read more

The Environmental Science Program, Graduate School, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), continued its efforts to strengthen students’ competencies in environmental management through the Basic Environmental Impact Assessment (AMDAL) Training Batch 3. The training was organized by the Center for Environmental Studies (PSLH) UGM in collaboration with the UGM Environmental Science Program and attended by 33 postgraduate students of Environmental Science at UGM. Held from 27–31 July 2026, the training was officially opened by Dr. Endang Astuti, M.Si. The program was conducted online, combining synchronous and asynchronous learning through a Learning Management System (LMS). read more

Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), through its team of experts, continues to support the Government of West Kutai Regency in the preparation of the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Inventory (IGRK) document. The activity was carried out through technical collaboration with various local government agencies and relevant institutions in West Kutai Regency from July 27–30, 2026.

The collaboration began with a technical coordination meeting between the UGM Expert Team and the West Kutai Regency Environmental Agency (DLH) on July 27, 2026. The meeting aimed to agree on the scope of activities, data sources, and emission reduction targets to be incorporated into the West Kutai GHG Inventory document. This process also served as an important step in aligning methodologies, perceptions, and data validation between the academic team and the local government. read more

PARI, Japan – In response to the growing risk of coastal disasters driven by climate change, including erosion, storm surges, and sea-level rise, the Government of Indonesia, in collaboration with Japan, organized the Green–Grey Coastal Project Training Program from 22–28 July 2026. The program was conducted under the framework of the Science and Technology Research Partnership for Sustainable Development (SATREPS), funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST). The training was hosted at the Port and Airport Research Institute (PARI) and various coastal sites across Japan. read more
