UGM Environmental Science Doctoral Student Explores Microalgae Utilization for Livestock Waste Treatment and Biodiesel Production

Yogyakarta, 9 March 2026 – Innovation in the utilization of microalgae to address waste management challenges while simultaneously producing renewable energy became the focus of research presented by Environmental Science doctoral student at the Graduate School of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), Fifin Hindarti. The research was presented during a closed dissertation defense held on Thursday (5/3) from 13.00–16.00 WIB at the C Meeting Room, 5th Floor, UGM Graduate School. The dissertation is entitled “Utilization of Microalgae Euglena gracilis as a Bioremediator of Dairy Farm Wastewater and Lipid Production for Biodiesel Feedstock.” read more

2026 Fieldwork Program Preliminary Survey: Master of Environmental Science Students Map Coastal and Flood Challenges in Pati Regency

Yogyakarta, March 9, 2026 – Eleven students from the Master of Environmental Science program have successfully conducted a preliminary survey for their 2026 Fieldwork Program (KKL) in Pati Regency, Central Java. The two-day fieldwork survey, from Thursday (March 6) to Friday (March 7), covered four main sub-districts: Pati, Juwana, Wedarijaksa, and Jakenan, as well as the entire coastal area.

This survey is a crucial follow-up to the initial briefing to solidify readiness for the KKL implementation, scheduled for July 2026. To optimize the observation process, in line with the overarching theme of “Coastal Ecosystem Resilience and Community Adaptation to Environmental Change in Pati Regency”, the eleven students were divided into two main working groups: the Coastal Team and the City Team. read more

Dr. Priyaji Agung Pambudi Provides Fieldwork Program Students with Training in Mangrove and Avifauna Survey Methods

Yogyakarta, March 4, 2026 – Continuing the preparation for the 2026 Fieldwork Program  (KKL), the Master of Environmental Science Study Program held its first technical briefing class on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, in Room 406, Graduate School, Gadjah Mada University. The class was attended by 42 KKL students and focused on developing the topics of Mangrove Vegetation Structure and Avifauna (bird) Diversity. This briefing session was led by Dr. Priyaji Agung Pambudi, S.Pd., M.Si. In his presentation, Dr. Priyaji provided comprehensive technical guidance on field data collection methods, particularly regarding accessibility and mapping of observation zones in the coastal areas of Pati Regency. read more

Dr. Priyaji Agung Pambudi, S.Pd., M.Si., a lecturer in the Master of Environmental Science Program at the Graduate School of Universitas Gadjah Mada, conducts research on environmental management in coal mining as a contribution to climate change mitigation and adaptation efforts. Mining activities are known to potentially affect water and soil quality as well as overall ecosystem balance, thereby requiring comprehensive and periodic environmental monitoring. Environmental management in the coal mining sector is a critical aspect of climate change mitigation and ecosystem protection. Research conducted in Riau Province indicates that responsibly managed mining practices can maintain ecological stability while contributing to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). read more
