As one of UGM’s delegates at the international event held from April 12 to 19, 2025, in Egypt, Prof. Haryono delivered a presentation titled “Sustainable Management of Mangkalihat Peninsula Karst Through Geopark Framework, East Kalimantan–Indonesia.” His presentation contributed to the main theme of the conference, “Geo-Spatial Technology, Global Changes & Sustainability.”
The Doctoral Program in Environmental Science, Graduate School of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), delegated Prof. Eko Haryono and Dr. Sudaryatno to participate in the IGU Egypt 2025 Thematic Conference. Initiated by the International Geographical Union (IGU), the conference was held in Egypt from April 12–19, 2025. This international event brought together scholars and experts from around the world to discuss pressing global environmental issues through the lenses of geospatial technology, global change, and sustainability.
Yogyakarta, April 21, 2025 — The Doctoral Program in Environmental Science, Graduate School of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), continues to strengthen its international network by organizing the Internship Doctoral Program, a collaboration between the Graduate School, Faculty of Geography, and Guilin University of Technology. The program is designed to provide both academic and research experiences for students from both institutions. This initiative represents a strategic step toward expanding international collaboration, as well as promoting mutual exchange of knowledge and experience among global academic communities.
Yogyakarta, March 21, 2025 — The Head of the Doctoral Program in Environmental Science, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), held a meeting with Universitas Gunungkidul (UGK) to discuss groundwater conservation in the Gunungkidul karst region. This meeting served as a follow-up to the Bribin-Baron Groundwater Resources Protection Program, an initiative of the global community Most Important Karst Aquifer Spring (MIKAS). The discussion focused on planning a collaborative, community-based empowerment program aimed at promoting sustainable water resource management in karst areas.
The Doctoral Program in Environmental Science, Graduate School of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), conducted a Monitoring and Evaluation (Monev) session for its students on Monday, March 17, 2025. Held virtually, the event was attended by the Head of the Study Program, the Quality Assurance Coordinator, and all doctoral students. The main objective of this activity was to monitor and assess students’ academic progress throughout their study period.
(Documentation of the Activity)
The monitoring and evaluation session served not only to track students’ progress but also to provide a platform for them to communicate any challenges or obstacles encountered during their study. This activity plays a crucial role in ensuring that every student receives adequate academic and non-academic support. To facilitate this, the program provided a structured feedback form where students were invited to report their study targets, achievements, difficulties, and suggestions for improvement. The submitted information became an important reference for the study program in providing constructive feedback and tailored academic guidance.
Yamaguchi, 27–28 February 2025 – The Master of Environmental Science Program conducted an exploratory visit to Yamaguchi University to initiate prospective international collaboration. This activity aims to strengthen academic and research partnerships between the two universities, with significant contributions to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in natural resource management, food security, and climate change mitigation.
(Activity Documentation)
During the visit, the Master of Environmental Science Program discussed the development of a Double Degree program, which Yamaguchi University has previously implemented with several other partner institutions. This program enables students to obtain degrees from both universities through a special academic scheme. The initiative supports SDG 4 (Quality Education) by providing opportunities for students to access high-quality international education in Environmental Science. The offered courses also contribute to SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) and SDG 13 (Climate Action), such as Disaster Mitigation, Environmental Fluid Dynamics, and Climate Change.
