YOGYAKARTA, 22 April 2026 – In preparation for the Field Study Program (KKL) scheduled for this coming June, the Master of Environmental Science Study Program held an in-depth academic briefing session on Wednesday (22/4). This session specifically explored the methodology for assessing social aspects and environmental quality that will be implemented in the coastal area of Central Java.

(Activity Documentation)
Led directly by Dr. Noorhadi Rahardjo, M.S., students were provided with a comprehensive understanding of the importance of integrating community socioeconomic conditions into environmental resilience analysis. The main focus of the discussion was the planned development of a settlement environmental quality map for Pati Regency, with a specific case study in the Juwana area.
Dr. Noorhadi emphasized that social aspects in environmental science cannot be separated from the physical conditions of a region. Students were encouraged to examine the hypothesis regarding the relationship between low economic conditions and declining residential environmental quality. To verify this, students will conduct complex variable analyses by combining secondary data, census information, and the use of big data.
In the mapping process, students will utilize multiple data sources, including remote sensing technology through satellite imagery and aerial photographs, combined with terrestrial field measurements. The interpretation process will be carried out in detail through settlement block delineation using photomorphic methods to ensure the accuracy of physical boundaries in the study area.
This initiative is in line with the overarching theme of KKL 2026, “Environmental Resilience and Governance Assessment.” In addition to validating field data, students are expected to produce scientific studies relevant to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Sustainable Cities and Communities (SDG 11).
Through this intensive series of preparations, the Study Program expects that the 40 students participating in KKL 2026 will possess strong technical readiness before conducting field research in Pati Regency. The final results of this study are expected not only to fulfill academic requirements, but also to provide meaningful contributions to environmental governance strategies in coastal areas.
