The participation of UGM’s doctoral students in this event demonstrates the academic community’s commitment to engaging actively with global sustainability agendas. Their involvement went beyond attendance — they served as agents of change who brought scientific perspectives to address contemporary environmental challenges. The discussion highlighted the importance of cross-sectoral innovation in supporting the transition to clean energy, as well as the sustainable utilization of local resources such as nickel, geothermal energy, blue food, and forest biomass — all of which play a crucial role in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), SDG 13 (Climate Action), SDG 15 (Life on Land), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
This participation also reflects UGM’s active role in fostering synergy among science, public policy, and collective action toward a more sustainable future. In his closing remarks, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono emphasized that saving the Earth is a great mission for humanity — one that can only be achieved when all elements of society unite and take concrete action.
The event provided a valuable interdisciplinary learning experience for UGM’s Environmental Science students, strengthening their capacity as future leaders who are environmentally conscious and prepared to address the challenges of global climate change.
