The Doctoral Program in Environmental Science, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), conducted a strategic visit to Omar Al-Mukhtar University, Libya, from 20 to 23 April 2025. This activity followed the earlier strategic visit of the UGM Graduate School delegation to Egypt. During the visit, Prof. Eko Haryono and Dr. Sudaryatno promoted the doctoral program to prospective international students from Omar Al-Mukhtar University. This initiative serves as a concrete step to expand academic networks and enhance the program’s global competitiveness through international student recruitment.

During the visit, the UGM delegation presented the academic framework, curriculum, facilities, and various opportunities for academic collaboration. The event received an enthusiastic response from the faculty members and students of Omar Al-Mukhtar University. One of the key outcomes of the meeting was the initial plan to recruit two prospective doctoral students from Libya whose research interests align with the focus areas of the Doctoral Program in Environmental Science. The candidates are expected to commence their doctoral studies in the near future following the selection and preparatory process.
This visit went beyond academic promotion; it also represented a tangible contribution of the Doctoral Program in Environmental Science UGM to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Specifically, the activity aligns with SDG 4 (Quality Education), which promotes inclusive and equitable access to higher education, and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), emphasizing global collaboration for sustainable development.
More broadly, the visit is expected to foster a collaborative platform for advancing knowledge and research in environmental science. UGM remains committed to expanding access to high-quality higher education for international students, particularly those who are deeply engaged in addressing global environmental and sustainability challenges.
