The Doctoral Program in Environmental Science, Graduate School of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), in collaboration with the Faculty of Geography UGM and the Department of Geological Engineering, Faculty of Engineering UGM, jointly organized an international workshop entitled “UGM–GUT Joint Lecture: Plate Convergence and Its Resource–Environmental Effects.” The event was held on June 23, 2025, at the Siti Nurbaya Center, Faculty of Geography UGM. Beyond serving as a platform for knowledge exchange in earth sciences, the workshop also contributed directly to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 13 (Climate Action), SDG 14 (Life Below Water), and SDG 15 (Life on Land).

Yogyakarta, May 12, 2025 — Doctoral students from the Environmental Science Program, Graduate School of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), participated in a public lecture titled “Green Growth: Sustainable Growth with Equity,” organized by The Yudhoyono Institute (TYI) in collaboration with the Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability. The event was part of TYI’s 25th Lecture Series, held at the Marriott Hotel Yogyakarta, and featured prominent global figures such as Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, Ban Ki-Moon, and Dr. Arun Majumdar.
The Graduate School of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), together with the Faculty of Geography UGM, officially signed a Tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Omar Al-Mukhtar University, Libya. This MoU marks the beginning of a strategic partnership in education and research among the three institutions. Prof. Eko Haryono represented UGM during the signing ceremony, while also conducting discussions on potential international student collaboration and delivering a field lecture at Omar Al-Mukhtar University from April 20 to 23, 2025.
Prof. Eko Haryono, Lecturer and Head of the Doctoral Program in Environmental Science at the Graduate School of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), delivered a field lecture at the Green Mountain Plateau in Libya. The activity was part of his visit to Omar Al-Mukhtar University from 20 to 23 April 2025. The lecture aimed to share his insights and scientific perspectives on natural phenomena occurring in the karst region. The event was attended enthusiastically by students of Omar Al-Mukhtar University.
The Doctoral Program in Environmental Science, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), conducted a strategic visit to Omar Al-Mukhtar University, Libya, from 20 to 23 April 2025. This activity followed the earlier strategic visit of the UGM Graduate School delegation to Egypt. During the visit, Prof. Eko Haryono and Dr. Sudaryatno promoted the doctoral program to prospective international students from Omar Al-Mukhtar University. This initiative serves as a concrete step to expand academic networks and enhance the program’s global competitiveness through international student recruitment.
The Doctoral Program in Environmental Science, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), continues to strengthen the quality of its education and research through a benchmarking visit to several leading universities in Egypt. The visit was conducted by Prof. Eko Haryono, Head of the Doctoral Program, and Dr. Sudaryatno, Quality Assurance Coordinator of the program, on the sidelines of their participation in an international conference from April 12 to 19, 2025. Three prominent universities were visited: Cairo University, Suez University, and Ain Shams University.
Prof. Eko Haryono, Head of the Doctoral Program in Environmental Science, Graduate School of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), presented his research on sustainable management of Indonesia’s karst landscapes at the IGU Egypt 2025 Thematic Conference. As one of UGM’s delegates at the international event held from April 12 to 19, 2025, in Egypt, Prof. Haryono delivered a presentation titled “Sustainable Management of Mangkalihat Peninsula Karst Through Geopark Framework, East Kalimantan–Indonesia.” His presentation contributed to the main theme of the conference, “Geo-Spatial Technology, Global Changes & Sustainability.”
The Doctoral Program in Environmental Science, Graduate School of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), delegated Prof. Eko Haryono and Dr. Sudaryatno to participate in the IGU Egypt 2025 Thematic Conference. Initiated by the International Geographical Union (IGU), the conference was held in Egypt from April 12–19, 2025. This international event brought together scholars and experts from around the world to discuss pressing global environmental issues through the lenses of geospatial technology, global change, and sustainability.
Yogyakarta, April 21, 2025 — The Doctoral Program in Environmental Science, Graduate School of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), continues to strengthen its international network by organizing the Internship Doctoral Program, a collaboration between the Graduate School, Faculty of Geography, and Guilin University of Technology. The program is designed to provide both academic and research experiences for students from both institutions. This initiative represents a strategic step toward expanding international collaboration, as well as promoting mutual exchange of knowledge and experience among global academic communities.
Yogyakarta, March 21, 2025 — The Head of the Doctoral Program in Environmental Science, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), held a meeting with Universitas Gunungkidul (UGK) to discuss groundwater conservation in the Gunungkidul karst region. This meeting served as a follow-up to the Bribin-Baron Groundwater Resources Protection Program, an initiative of the global community Most Important Karst Aquifer Spring (MIKAS). The discussion focused on planning a collaborative, community-based empowerment program aimed at promoting sustainable water resource management in karst areas.
